PRAGMATIC LACUNAE IN ENGLISH AND UZBEK: A CONTRASTIVE ANALYSIS OF SPEECH ETIQUETTE UNITS
Abstract
This article provides a contrastive analysis of pragmatic lacunae in English and Uzbek speech etiquette. It examines mismatches in address forms, greetings, requests, gratitude, apologies, invitations, and farewells. Pragmatic lacunae are shown to arise from differences among linguistic forms, social relationships, cultural expectations, and conventions governing contextually appropriate communication.
