Abstract

This article suggests that Uzbek literature holds an independent status as a separate subject within the general secondary education system, and the advantages of a competency-based approach to teaching the fundamentals of this subject are scientifically and methodologically substantiated. The study also analyzes the current achievements and shortcomings of the native language curriculum.
